Riverside Concerts presents Chuck Blattner directing the Rochester Concert Band at this year’s Rochesterfest celebration. This concert will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 6 p.m. at the Main Stage on Civic Center Dr. (3rd Ave.). Admission is FREE! Selections to include "Happy Time March", "In the Mood", plus a pair of Gershwin tunes including "Girl Crazy Overture" and "Strike Up the Band".
In its 139th year of existence, the Concert Band has become a Rochester institution. Originally named the Rochester Park Band, the band's concerts in the park still conjure up memories of a time gone by; strolling down to the old bandshell in Mayo Park on a hot summer evening to enjoy the tunes of the day as performed by friends and neighbors. From Broadway hits to patriotic classics, with a dash of classical thrown in for good measure, Chuck and company offer up a little something for everyone; with a few surprises. Nothing says "summer" like a band concert in the park.
